Despite getting sick in China, it was rollicking good time. We decided to do some cheapie travel and thus had an epic journey getting from Hong Kong to our final destination:
1.We took an hour long bus from Hong Kong to the Chinese border, at which point we
2.Got off the bus and went through Chinese immigration, then boarded another bus which took another hour to get to the Shenzhen airport
3. Took the plane from Shenzhen, China to Guilin, China
4.Arrived in the very sketchy and smoke-filled Guilin airport (where absolutely nobody spoke English), went through immigration again and took at 40 minute cab ride to our hotel in Guilin where
5. We promptly discovered that we had cockroaches in our room.
I guess you could say from the start that this trip was not for the faint of heart. I think I was ok up until the roaches part. I am DEATHLY afraid of roaches. But we got our room changed and kept it moving.
Keep in mind that that I did this whole journey in the reverse on the way back to Hong Kong (plus another two hours added on for the Guilin to Yangshuo leg of the trip) while being sick (sick being defined as vomiting into a plastic bag the whole way). Oy vey!
Anyhoo, the trip was fantastic, and here are some pics for you! We took a river cruise along the famed Li River which extends from Guilin to Yangshuo. We trekked up to Moon Hill. We took hikes in the Yangshuo countryside. We rented mountain bikes for the day and got lost in the Chinese wilderness.
