Last Friday night, Liebling and I had the pleasure of going to a barbecue where we ate on this beautifully lit terrace of a friend’s apartment:
But that’s not really what I wanted to show you. Rather, I wanted to talk briefly about the complexities of taking a group photo.
Group photos are difficult to coordinate, as evidenced by the following:
So many people to coordinate! Multiple cameras snapping at the same time! No idea where to look! People not ready/unaware the photo is being taken! Group photos are difficult, and getting the perfect shot can be like finding a needle in a haystack- near impossible. But the art of snapping a good group photo can be even more difficult when your attempts are thwarted by culprits that I’d like to call “Photo Bombers” (usually boys):
Worse still, an inattentive/disinterested photographer (usually male) can muck up a good photo op.
So what’s the moral or the message to be gleaned from of this story? Three things:
1) Large groups and photos do not usually a good photo make.
2) Boys and photos do not usually a good photo make.
3) When taking these sorts of photos, patience is a virtue, and low expectations of how the photo will turn out is integral to your sanity.
How very grateful I am for digital cameras and long-lasting lithium batteries!

ummm wow..lol.. ppl have short attention spans
Organizing that chaos into a pretty picture is my job and it is NOT easy. Taking a good group photo where everyone is looking at the camera requires skill. Now try taking a group photo where everyone is looking at the camera AND looks happy and relaxed….near impossible!
group picture is so difficult, everyone is trying to make up their mind and look good for the camera.

haha good group photos are really hard! I think particularly if you want them to look at all natural. Like we just happened to chilling on this couch like sardines and the camera captured it!

@Mamacita: I can't even IMAGINE what it must like for you- weddings in particular are such monumental events and people get crazy/emotional and can't keep still! You still do a fantastic job of capturing those perfect moments, though!

@Deirdre: I can't seem to do natural photos… I just look crazy, hence the manufactured smile/head-tilt combo in my pics (at least the ones that see the light of day LOL!)
Or try timer setting and have several shots take themselves. But it doesn't always work either.
