Washington D.C.: Road Trippin’ with Greyhound!

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

My jaunt to Washington, D.C. on the bus.

Despite having travelled the world, my travel list comes up woefully short when it comes to North America.  I was born in Canada and yet have only set foot in three provinces of 10 (and forget about the three territories—I haven’t been to either of those either); I grew up next to the U.S. border but most of the country is largely unknown to me.  Heck, I lived in Mexico for a year and only made it to a few key places—I left having barely scratched the surface.

Well, after over a decade of living in Europe and Asia, my recent move to New York City means that I really have no excuse for not seeing more of the hemisphere I call home. I promised myself to explore more of the USA and have so far made good on that promise: I went to Hawaii a few months ago, just spent a long weekend in Puerto Rico, and oohed and ahhed upon laying eyes on the stunning national parks of Arizona and Utah. This country is beautiful and I want to see more of it.

This is why I was excited to visit yet another U.S. destination gem, Washington, D.C. I travelled there as a child and had been eager to return since my failing memory meant I could barely remember what the city was like. (Obviously I didn’t eat enough “memory fish” as a kid, but I digress). For this trip I partnered with Greyhound, taking one of their express coaches to D.C. and back. The prospect of taking the bus there was extremely attractive because I’m a huge fan of road tripping, and since I’m not particularly fond of driving, fussing with maps, or navigating traffic. On the bus, I was able to kick up my feet and relax, and isn’t that what vacation is all about?

At any rate, since visuals paint a better picture than words, here are two vlogs documenting my trip!  While I got to see a lot while I was in town, the highlight was definitely a visit to the National Museum of African American History and culture.  Peep the clips to see what I got up to and make sure that you subscribe to my Youtube channel for more travel videos!

What did you think of my trip to D.C.? Have you ever been? If not, is it on your travel list?

This trip was done in partnership with Greyhound, but all thoughts, opinions, and corny jokes are my own.
