Hazy tower in the distance
Being from Toronto, towers are really no big deal. Toronto is home to the CN Tower, which was once the tallest freestanding structure in the world (in 2007 the Burj Khalifa in Dubai bested Toronto’s tower).
But no matter. We were in Seoul and you can’t go to Seoul without checking out the North Seoul Tower. So on a hazy day last week, we took the metro, then walked, then took a cable, then mounted densely wooded pathway to check it out.
As the day was hazy, we opted not to pay the money to actually go up inside the tower- we got a view over Seoul from one of the free observation decks at the tower site. The view was not good at all, but I imagine that on a nice day, it might be worth it to pay the money to go up inside the tower. Otherwise, we took the requisite photos and took in the scads of tourists who had also trekked up to the site. I was most entertained by the protective railings of the observation deck- all of them were covered in combination locks.

The locks on the railings are "love locks." The Seoul Tower isn't really anything big (in my opinion) unless you are on a date there. Then you are supposed to put up a lock with your beloved one, maybe with your names or initals written on it, and hurl the lock's key down the mountain while ignoring all the signs that say "do not throw key down the mountain."
