Scenes from a new life in Hong Kong.
Well, hello there. Remember me?
I know, I know– blog posts have been scanty the last few weeks as I settle into my new life in Hong Kong. The last month has been positively insane; finding a place to live, starting a new job, and looking after all the administrative stuff triggered by an international move like this one have eaten away at the time I usually reserve for blogging. Liebling arrived last week and every night since we have been out doing something fun. Hong Kong is just as I left it my first time round: loud, vibrant, and exciting. I feel like I’m falling in love with the city again: the lights, the action, foreign smells, and Chinese signage and voices always make me feel like I’m learning. And as an educator, there’s nothing I adore more than when learning takes place.
I have so many stories to tell, but the truth is that I’ve been so busy having an amazing time here that I haven’t been able to sit myself down long enough to put words to blog post and share my experiences. The thing with Hong Kong, for those of you who haven’t been, is that there is always always always something to do: you can sit down at home thinking that you’ll finally have a quiet night in and then, within minutes of a phone call or text message from a new friend, you’re suddenly pulling on your shoes and contemplating whether or not you should bring a shawl because the place you’re meeting your friend at for dinner gets ridiculously cold due to over-zealous air-conditioning.
In nearly four weeks I’ve barely touched my “real” camera (too heavy to run around with in sticky Hong Kong!), choosing to run around with my brand-spanking new smartphone. I ended up buying an HTC One and am enjoying it so far, though I nearly passed out when it came time to pay — this phone isn’t cheap! Like a child with new toy, I’ve been snap-happy and have become mildly obsessed with Instagram, which probably makes me slow to jump on the bandwagon since it’s been popular for more than a little while.
I’ve shared some of my recent pics below. It seems that I’m way better at updating Instagram as opposed to the blog nowadays, so you might want to follow me there as I post photos in real time.
So what’s new in your neck of the woods? Any Instagrammers out there?

Nice photos – I find my regular camera is too bothersome to bring around with quite regularity as well, so I’m often using Instagram too.
Also – You’ve made me realize that I actually need to visit Hong Kong at some point!
HK does look vibrant and loud – in all senses.

I imagine it being at par if not more expensive than London. Do they have short term rental apartments?
How do you get on without Chinese, I assume English is widely spoken as a ex British territory?

Hi Oneika. Started following you earlier this year… congrats on going back to HK. It’s clear you really like it there, Traveling is my passion and I finally began my quest to teach my way around the world and living in as many different countries as possible (following in your footsteps). I’m now living in Chongqing, China as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching English to college freshmen. I’m planning to take a trip to the Zhuhai and Hong Kong this winter and would love to meet you if possible.
One question I had for you. I’m a natural who stopped relaxing my hair 8 years ago. Now that I live in China i’m finding it a bit challenging to get products for my natural 4a tresses. How did you manage when you lived in HK many years ago? Any tips you have would be mucho appreciated!

certainly like your website but you have to check the spelling
