After a number of online searches on hotel booking sites, hours of scouring reviews on Trip Advisor, and intense perusal of hotel locations on Google Maps, Liebling and I decided to stay at the lovely Hotel Sultania. Purported as a luxury boutique hotel and highly rated on Trip Advisor, we had pretty lofty expectations of the place and were not disappointed! Here are some pics of the hotel and of our room. This place definitely gets a thumbs up from me: it was clean and very stylish, located in the historic center of Istanbul, the breakfast (included in the room rate) had a variety of tasty foods, and the decor was stylish. The amazing and attentive hotel staff let us check in early at no extra charge (check in is normally at 1pm but we arrived super early at 7:30am)! You can borrow DVDs from reception to watch in your room, and when we did so and discovered that we were having an issue with our DVD player, a maintenance guy was sent up within two minutes of our call! You can’t beat that sort of service. Liebling, who is difficult to impress, was so enamored by the hotel that he actually wrote a glowing review of the place on a hotel booking website. While we didn’t take advantage of it, the hotel had a spa and hammam in the basement, complete with heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and small fitness area.
While in the past I have been a hostel kinda girl (cheap and a good way to meet people if travelling solo), I have to admit that staying in places like this makes me never want to step foot in a hostel again! It is soooo important to be comfortable in the place you’re staying in- and since I was feeling a little under the weather during our Istanbul trip it was really great to be able to relax and convalesce in a nice place like this.

Oh the hotel sounds nice and looks absolutely gorgeous and very comfortable. And it is nice to recover in style. When in Istanbul I'll be looking this hotel up.

@crystal and Ugomma: it was pretty costly to stay there especially since it was a holiday… we paid 150 Euro a night, but since it was Christmas we decided to splurge! we all need that once in a while…i think that the hotel is typically 100 Euro a night during off-season but it was definitely money well spent!
@pepe: i LOVED the attention to detail in this hotel. each room is named after a real sultan's wife; i forget what her name was, but this is a painting of her! there was also a scroll detailing her story of how she came to join the harem..
@flaming star: i definitely recommend it. the hotel is brand new as well.
@mamacita: after checking out pics online, the decor is what sold us. it has a real traditional turkish feel! we thought it would be fun to stay at a theme hotel like this! 🙂

@Terri- What a coincidence!! Great minds DO think alike! Didn't you just love this hotel? The service and decor was great and they were just SO nice! How did you find out about it? We saw that it had fantastic reviews on TripAdvisor and couldn't resist!
