I’m going to New York City tomorrow!
I know, it feels like I JUST got home to Toronto, no?
I’ll be visiting friends in NYC from Thursday to next Tuesday and while I’m exhausted from this past weekend’s festivities (more pics to come), I can’t wait to catch up and party with my girlfriends.
Anyway, that’s not what I wanted to write about. What I wanted to do was to share with you some of my latest eating adventures in Toronto (affectionately known as the T-dot by some Torontonians).
What have I been eating since I’ve been home? Everything under the sun that isn’t particularly healthy for you. Check out what my latest haul from the supermarket yielded:
That’s ALL I bought, yall. Don’t believe me? Check the receipt…
The other day, I went out with my friend for lunch in the Kensington Market area of Toronto. We had huge grilled cheese sandwiches from a restaurant that is oh-so-creatively named Grilled Cheese.
Look good? It was. It soooo was. Though, the fact that I am slightly lactose intolerant, meant that I paid dearly for that sandwich later on in the evening (don’t ask). But you know what? It was worth it.
I don’t think I need to tell you that there are an abundance of rocking eateries in the T-dot that peddle very delicious foods. I’ll just let the following picture prove my point:
I didn’t have any of these pies, but I met another friend for coffee in this restaurant and couldn’t resist snapping a pic.
I did however indulge at Jack Astor’s the other evening, which is one of my favourite Canadian chain restaurants. Dubbed the “World’s Smallest Brownie”, this little piece of heaven is delectable and ridiculously cheap at only $0.99! With a price like that, how could I refuse dessert (even though I wasn’t hungry at all)?!
Yes, I’m a pig, but at least I had a yummy Californian chicken salad as a main so I didn’t feel quite so gluttonous. Who said that salads have got to be boring?
Of course, I have also been stepping out and eating at one of my fav restaurants of all time:
(Don’t judge me.)
It’s a wonder that I managed to fit into my skimpy Carnival costume last weekend!
Have you eaten out lately? How frequently do you go? What type of restaurants do you prefer to eat at?

I probably eat out about twice a month (if that). I really enjoy cooking so it's part of my down time to cook dinner. But I am also gluten intolerant AND vegetarian so that cause some issues eating out.
IC and I have a thai place around the corner from our apartment that we get take out from sometimes. YUM! thai curry just speaks to me in a way that isn't kosher.
You've been eating your way through Toronto looks like. I do love good food and bad food LOL.
seriously? you're hurting me with these food posts….my mouth literally starts to water…..
no randy's patty? just as well…i might pass out if you post a pic of one 😉
You got me anticipatin' girl will be coming that way early September, thanks for helping my itinerary along.
Yay! Hey Oneika, I'm in NYC and would be interested in meeting you to say hello. I deleted my blog but I still follow yours. Let me know 🙂
I'm not judging you on the Mickey D's 😉 A girl needs some salty fries once in a while!
I haven't been to Jack Astor's in forever, but I'll probably hit up Swiss Chalet or East Side Mario's or Kelsey's at some point during my trip home!
Just got back from Zehrs (not a Food Basics fan) and couldn't get over the choice of food we have here! There is a sauce or cookie or snack food for anything and everything now! And a lot of the food is so much cheaper than in France. Le sigh. I dont want to go back.
I love oreo cookies though I have never tried the fudge kind; not sure I have seen it here in the UK before. Love melted cheese on anything: pasta, toast, not so much yoghurt.
Defintely like Mcdonalds…not need to feel guilty:)
It's not something one indulges in daily so enjoy it when you do!
I too am a little bit lactose intolerant…so I admire your fortitude in plunging ahead with that grilled cheese sandwich.
O,
Is it fair to say? Oh, I dunno….THAT YOU MISSED THE FOOD ALOT WHILE YOU WERE AWAY IN ASIA? lol-I'm sure they had great food there as well but…we Westerners do take artery clogging to a 'notha level, am I right?
Oh my god, as soon as I saw that grilled cheese-my stomach grumbled…
@Deidre: I wish I had the time, patience, and inclination to cook! I would eat in a lot more often!
@Flaming: LOL. Me too!
@kay: Girrrrrrrrrlll, I actually went down to Randy's patty on Thursday and bought a half dozen beef patties… 2nd time I've done that, too! But I'm always so excited to have them that I eat them off before I can take a picture!!
@kimvan: No problem 🙂
@Nikki: Hey girl! That would be great! Email me so we can figure something out!
@Crystal: I know what you mean! After being in Hong Kong and paying so much money for my favourite groceries, shopping at places like Food Basics is a dream.. 🙂
@Sprite: I agree! I'm also a fan of Oreos, but I almost always have to have them with milk. 🙂
@Mamacita: Greed is more like it… 🙂
@Tanya: Absolutely! I was FEENING for these foods when I was in Hong Kong! Is it bad that I've made a list of all the foods I want to eat while I'm back? North Americans are pros when it comes to junk food- nobody does it better!
I recently went to California Pizza Kitchen, for the first time. I was really surprised at how good the salad was, they pizza was ok. But the salad we had was amazing. But I don't eat out much because of my work schedule 10-7 ugh 🙁 but now it has changed to 9-6, so hopefully I'll get out more.
I agree with Crystal about Maccas, every now and then we need to fries :)) I use to go all the time in Korea because they had a sweet chili sauce with the nuggets that was really amazing.
You're so going to pay, again, for all that junk food!.
I don't eat out often, as I'm a vegetarian and such restaurants here are expensive.
Drool…. That grilled cheese looks awesome! Yumo. If i ever go to toronto, i'll be sure to eat there!
@Kourt: I've never been to CPK! I must give it a try the next time I'm in the States!
@foosrock: Oh, trust me, I have! I've had a stomachache for the last two weeks… But it's sooo good when I eat it that I'm willing to suffer the consequences…
@Taylor: Thanks for stopping by! Yes, Grilled Cheese is DEFINITELY worth it.
That looked like one YOOGE grilled cheese sandwich. And those pies look delicious.
Awesome things here. I am very happy to see your article. Thanks a lot and I’m taking a look forward to contact you. Will you please drop me a e-mail?|
