One of my recent facebook statuses read as follows:
“Nikita is blazing her way through her “Things to eat while in Toronto” list: McDonald’s on Saturday, chicken philly sandwich from Charlie’s Steakery and chocolate chip muffin from Mmmuffins on Sunday, and patties and cocoa bread from Randy’s today. Next up: Tim Hortons bagel and those free cheese biscuits from Red Lobster.”
I’ve since checked the Tim Hortons bagel and the Red Lobster biscuits from the list. Have I mentioned how much I love to eat? And how badly I have longed for some of my favouritest North American treats? Now, I make no bones about it, I am a girl who LOVESSS her fast food. Call me a product of my environment. I grew up in North America, the world-reknowed fast food nation. The drive-thru was invented here. Us Americans and Canadians love us some fast food and nobody anywhere else will ever do it better.
So it was with much anticipation that I awaited my return to Toronto so that I could become re-acquainted with my favourite junk food places. My first meal after getting off the plane in Toronto was McDonalds (don’t ask me why, but I refuse to eat McD’s abroad). And I’ve been blazing my way through the list ever since, and steadily making additions as I go along and remember even MORE stuff that I really like to eat and can’t find in Hong Kong.
What are some of the other foods that I’ve missed and will try to eat before my departure?
The list is long and exhaustive: Harvey cheeseburger and frings, Wheat thins, Rice Krispies cereal, Jack Astor’s deep-dish apple pie, Pillsbury dough boy crescent rolls, President’s Choice Decadent chocolate chip cookie, strawberry pop tarts, Kernels popcorn in double butter, Smart Food popcorn in White Cheddar flavour, Garlic Cheese loaf from Swiss Chalet, Kraft dinner, Sidekicks pasta three cheese flavour…
…And I’m embarrassed to say that the list goes on and on and on. I have been indulging because I am home, and my thickening waistline speaks to this fact.
But hey, you only live once, right?
At least I’m washing it all down with a Diet Coke.

Hahaha! This is exactly how I feel anout REAL mexican food when I go back home. I always tell myself that I'm going to be reasonable but once I get there I can't seem to stop eating! Tacos, molotes, tortas, gorditas, chalupas, esquites, quesadillas, sopes, cemitas…. and these are only the antojitos!!! I also love all the spicy brands of chips and candy they sell in Mexico and ONLY in Mexico (we seem to be the only country that isn't grossed out by chile lollypops and spicy ice cream)….
ArrrrggghhhH! Now I am hungry and all there is to eat in this stinking country is smelly cheese! 🙁
