I’m embarking on a new language journey, y’all.
I started taking German class two Saturdays ago and am now spouting off random phrases in piss-poorDeutsch like nobody’s business. Now, why German? Apart from the obvious reasons, I am a language “groupie” who is an aspiring polyglot. I already speak French and Spanish fluently, understand a bit of Italian and Portuguese, and am at near-expert level in Jamaican Patois (thanks, family!). I’m planning to live in Europe again at some point and figure-toi that with 95 million speakers, German has the largest number of speakers in the European Union (France comes in second with about 80 million speakers). So it’s useful!
I’ve only learned the alphabet, the numbers from one to ten, and how to introduce myself so far. But, as I am a language nerd, I am ecstatic at my (marginal) progress, and take every opportunity to practice with Liebling and ask him how to say stuff in the hopes of wowing my German teacher at the next class. The class, which takes place every Saturday afternoon for three hours, is taught by the most adorable, fussy German man, who speaks High German so crisply, cleanly, and slowly that it’s almost as comprehensible as English. He is patient and funny, a fastidious dresser (tucks his polo into his jeans!) and makes a lot of corny jokes. And he sounds exactly like Liebling when he speaks English (the slightest of German accent). Loves it!
Anyway, I know you’re dying for me to show off how much I’ve learned so here goes:
Ich heisse (Mein Name ist) Nikita. Ich komme aus Canada und ich vohne in Hong Kong.

Not bad at all. Good luck as German is kind of HARD. I love, love the language but it is difficult to learn.
Wow, that brings back memories of my elementary/high school days learning German. German is a very logical language (which is probably why I suck at it) Once you learn the rules (and get your head around der/die/das) you're golden! Viel Glück!
German? Wow, that is a guttural and difficult language, so good luck with that! I'm sticking with Spanish(almost fluent!).

That’s further than I got Lol! I’m a language nerd too. Learning them usually comes easy for me (I am in LOVE with the French language). I attempted to learn German on my German app but it’s wayyy too hard to retain in my brain!
