I’ve been in London since Saturday evening, and admittedly have not been up to much, so I have no excuse for this blogging absence. My daily routine is as follows: I generally lie around in bed until about 9:30am, Facebook/email/eat breakkie, sometimes go to the gym, then get myself ready to go meet Liebling for lunch, after which I leisurely walk back to his flat and lightly window-shop on the way. One day I met a friend from university for tea, and yesterday I got lost on the tube and in the environs of Piccadilly circus. Not a very difficult existence. But I’ve been TIRED. After a kick-ass visit back home that saw me gallivanting and on the streets at all hours of night, then a whirlwind trip to Iceland where overnight flight there, time change, and 24 hours of daylight messed up my sleep patterns, I’m not surprised at my exhaustion (pics from Iceland coming soon).
The awesome reunion with Liebling at the airport was followed by a looooooong tube ride to his flat, a food run to the local bagel shop where 99p gets you a fresh bagel with cream cheese, and very late sleep-in the next day. But, as always, we were up and at ’em on Sunday, and, despite my aching body and tired bones he took me on a massive walking tour of the city.
The weather for most of the day was impressively gorgeous: bright sun and blue sky, hot and not humid, with a breeze that was crisp and refreshing and only sometimes bordered on uncomfortable.
I’ve been to London once before, in late 2003 with my mama and auntie, so I had already seen most of the sights. But it was great to get re-acquainted with them, and the weather (and company!) was fabulous. I didn’t have a digicam way back in 2003 and have since misplaced the hard copies of the photos my family and I took while in London, so it was great to get my picture taken with all of the monuments!
To top the day off, we had an oh-so-British meal of fish and chips at a local pub in Soho. The fish was extra greasy and the chips were a thick cut so I was happy…
So long story short, I am enjoying this stint of my travels, and enjoying getting to know London at a slower pace than normal. Of course, this IS me we’re talking about, and I am too impatient to sit tight in one spot for long… Which is why we’re off to Berlin for the weekend, leaving tomorrow. 🙂
