hey momma!
got to kenya safe and sound yesterday morning after a 14 hour flight where our tv screens didn’t work!! upon arrival at our hotel we hired an (overpriced!) driver to take us around for the day. we went to a giraffe park where these big, cute giraffes licked my hand and took some really good pictures. then went to a traditional kenyan village we we bought tickets to a show that featured traditional kenyan dancing. i ate some damn good bbq chicken that had me licking my fingers (don’t worry, i washed them after the giraffe licked them)…
having fun so far! i am told that i look like i could be kenyan, from the southern part which is awesome but my friend, who is white as snow, blue eyed, and tow-headed, is getting tons of stares. i am secretly laughing on the inside cuz irony of this role reversal (where i am “normal” with my nappy hair and dark skin) is too sweet LOL. yes, i am evil. i love peoples accents, clothes, and hairstyles, though i have counted far too many weaves and have seen far too many people who bleach their skin (telltale signs being their light faces and hands a few shades darker).
after the village and dancing, we got our driver to bring us to the convenience store where i commenced a harried search for contact lense solution (which seems to not exist here). looks like i will be wearing my glasses the whole trip. boo. at least my new tortoise-shell pair (acquired in china 2 weekends ago for less than $20 USD) are kinda cute. got back to the hotel and promptly set up my mosquito net (yes the rooms have them, attached to the ceiling and you must spread them out over the bed so the damn mozzies wont get in… malaria is no joke here)… kinda freaky. we’ve been taking our anti-malaria pills but so far i havent had crazy dreams just yet (one of the apparent side effects).
going to the market today, then starting the safari tomorrow. internet will be scant but will try to write when i can.

Wow, wow, wow!! Man, I can't wait to visit the mudder-ship! Can't wait 'til you post pics!! Did you get to Senegal by any chance? Goree Island? Maybe I missed it. Do wild animals smell bad? LOL!
That was a great trip however next time do a bit more research like where to get the contact lenses?? Lyntons Pharmacy next to the Hilton(a landmark in Nairobi i'm sure you saw it)You can get the lenses and the solution there.
There's internet everywhere and you can do it from your phone.Next time buy a sim card and you can reload your airtime to the amount you can afford and get internet on the go.
How come you missed all the nice spots the National Park, Safari Walk, The National Museum etc? Next time you drop by try these places:)
