Okay okay okay…
So I lied when I said that I was cooling down with the travels, but I’m just trying to take advantage of all opportunities afforded to me at this moment. Because, well, why not? And yes, before you tell me, I know that I am truly blessed.
At any rate, as I lay in bed sick on this beautiful, sunny (at least for Hong Kong standards) Friday afternoon, I am carefully plotting and crafting my summer travel itinerary. Because, at least in the travel game, it is indeed the early bird that gets the proverbial worm.
I was originally slated to head back to North America this summer to finish off the last semester of my Master’s degree in French Language Education. However, due to scheduling difficulties (I have to be back in Hong Kong for work before the semester for my Master’s is over), I am postponing finishing off my studies until next summer.
So what to do?
A trip to Canada to visit family and friends in definitely in order, so I’ll go home for two weeks before jetting off again… to Europe. Unsure of my exact travel plans and destinations, I snagged a cheapie one-way ticket to London, where the Liebling will graciously receive me. Talk of visiting friends in France, road-tripping in Italy, taking a course in Paris or London, and sailing in Croatia are all in the works. But there is still time to finalize. After all, a month in Europe definitely allows for at least a minimum of flexibility.
So where does Iceland fit into all of this? My cheapie one-way flight is on none other than Iceland Air, which, on all their cross-continental flights, happens to allow a stopover (at no extra cost!) in Reykjavik, the nation’s capital. While I had absolutely no interest in ever going to Iceland (perhaps due to my own ignorance about what the country has to offer) and would never have thought to go there, I am, as I said before, taking advantage of all opportunities afforded to me.
And thusly, I have booked myself for a 1.5 day stopover in Reykjavik.
Iceland.
Because I can.
And, because…well… why not?

Why the hell not indeed! I love your spirit for life. Good for you. A friend of mine stopped off in Icel also and only had good things to say about the city he visited. Have fun….and don't forget to write about it.
Yeah, that's my plan two. They are hardcore advertising that free stopover and I know a lot of people who are taking advantage of it.

Wow, enjoy Iceland! It's a beautiful country. And Reykjavik is tiny, but really cool. If you can, try to do a Golden Circle tour…it's a awesome introduction to the beauty of the country.
Cool! I just returned from Iceland and had a great time–in February. I agree with ABC on the Golden Circle. And, of course, the Blue Lagoon. Enjoy!
