Last week in Berlin, Liebling, myself, and a whole bunch of his friends went to check out a Christmas market. For those who don’t know, Christmas markets are basically an institution in Germany, a sure symbol of Christmas. The weather was frightful (my feet were so cold I think they went through the first stages of frostbite), but the sites and eats were delightful. Liebling and I ate about two bratwurst each, and him and his friends (over)indulged in gluwein (known to us anglophones as “mulled wine” or hot wine). This particular Christmas market we visited was located in front of the Schloss Charlottenburg (the Charlottenburg Castle), which, while pretty and visited by a number of Berliners and tourists alike, is nowhere near as busy (read: packed) as some of the other Christmas markets in Berlin. We took the metro from Liebling’s place to Berlinerstrasse tube station and walked the rest of the way, so no worries about drinking and driving! All in all, it was a great time.

My goal for 2011 is do what you have done. I love to travel and have been a nice number of places, but you are the one to beat.
I have friends who live in Germany near Meinz and he mentioned that it is easy to teach English there without a teacher's degree. Has that been your experience while teaching?
Side note: has anyone ever told you that your liebling looks like a blonder Kevin Richardson from The Backstreet Boys. Everytime I see his pic in your blog I think that.

That Christmas market looks like so much fun…love the light display! I had a near frostbite experience myself yesterday. Note to self, do not wear my "cute" boots while visiting friends in Chicago during the winter…

Unfortunately I cant really comment about the TESL situation in Germany because I happen to have a teaching degree which allows me to teach high school French and English lit… I used to teach in the public school system in Canada and I currently teaching in an international school in Hong Kong where all teachers have to be certified… I would, however, imagine that some language schools would allow you to teach without some sort of certification? I recommend checking out daveseslcafe.com for more info- that site is a great resource for TESL jobs!
And funny about Liebling! Nobody has ever told me that… I'm going to check out some pics of Kevin… Actually, people have told Liebling that he looks a lot like a German television personality called Kai Pflame… What do you think?

@Mae: LOL! That's always the internal monologue that I have with myself every winter! Praticality (i.e. big, unattractive winter boots that protect from cold and snow) or style (flimsy but fashion forward boots)! I guess we just got to pay the price to look good… Within reason of course! How cold was it in Chicago? I am APPALLED at how cold it is here… I'm definitely missing the warm weather in Hong Kong right now!

I am trying to get into the library field and was thinking of going the school route, being a library media specialist. Much easier than going for my Masters in library science.
