Well, my lovelies, it would seem that the gods were listening after my whinge about not being able to find a winter coat in Hong Kong. Because, wouldn’t you know, that this here lady found a suitable coat this past weekend! It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, but it filled the following (important) criteria:
-covers my butt
-is down-filled
-has a hood and a double zipper so can zip from the top or bottom
-is warm and thick and padded but doesn’t make me look like a Michelin man
-wasn’t ridiculously expensive like some of the other coats I had seen
I got it from Zara and it was $899 HKD ($115 USD) and it is pictured below (courtesy of the Zara HK website). It’s longer on me than it is on the model, but then, she’s probably about 6 feet tall and I am 5’4″… Whaddya think?
So I think I may just be ready for the outdoor winter markets in Berlin and long sightseeing days in Istanbul. Now all I need is scarf/hat/gloves to keep my extremities warm and toasty… I’m thinking that I might go to H&M (my favourite) for those. The ones below are kinda cute, no?

when are you going to istanbul? i recently added turkey to my list of countries to visit and i'm hoping to get their while i'm in india next year as the flights are pretty reasonable.

cute coat! I'm actually looking for one just like that for this winter…I'm definitely going to hit up Zara and see if they have them. I'm 5'4" too, so finding a well-fitting women's coat can be so hard. Unfortunately, buying in the kids section is not any cheaper than buying in the women's (in France anyway!).

P.S. As someone who grew up in a cold climate, I swear by anything in polar fleece. It's the warmest material and I have a scarf and gloves made with it that keep me toasty no matter how cold it is outside!
OMG…girl after my own heart. You should see the coat I had to buy to go to Iceland a couple of weeks ago…Michelin Man eat your heart out, given I'm not as small as you!
Coat looks cute. Not sure if the gloves will be warm enough though. This past wkend while in the Koln Kerstmarkt the cold tried to stop me from enjoying my currywurst… 🙁

Love the coat- it's very cute and looks rather warm. Zara's always makes great stuff. I definitely have to check them out since I am in need of a new winter coat too. There are SO many more choices here for winter coats that it can be overwhelming shopping for one. Sometimes I just want to buy them all. The H&M scarf/hat is cute but it may not be warm enough. I find H&M has very stylish scarf/hat sets but they aren't very warm. Though, one can sometimes sacrifice warmth over style- why not when you're on vacation?
In terms of preparing for winter, you probably are familiar with what we do here. For the most part, winters usually involve VERY little time spent outside and listening to EVERYONE talk about the weather- ie. how cold it is, how much snow we got and when it's going to snow again. And lets not forget about drinking copious amounts of hot chocolate, latte's and egg nog to get through the cold as well as hitting the gym to look FAB for next spring/summer. And for those of us who can afford it- a trip down South somewhere warm is a winter MUST!

@Crystal- Yeah, shockingly Zara in Hong Kong had an assortment of coats! So I'm guessing you'll have even more selection in Paris! Funnily enough, when I lived in France, I bought a winter coat from Mim for 20 Euros… It was pretty darn good, too!!
And polar fleece, eh? I've never been a fan- I think it's the way it feels again my skin- but I'm weird like that!
@kuesooM- I'm sure you looked FAB in your coat! And Michelin's can be cute, after all… LOL.. Wow, Iceland! What were you doing up there? I think the general consensus is that I'm going to have to get some heavy duty mittens… Thanks for the input!
@Samantha- You are totaly right about the warmth vs. style thing… It's just this darn thing called vanity that's prompting me to opt for style LOL… Unfortunately, my trip to Turkey will involve LOTS of outside time… But that's the beauty of travel 🙂
