The Faces of Myanmar

A photo post dedicated to some of the people I came across in Myanmar.

Connecting with local people is probably one of the greatest joys I derive from travelling.  I love the learning and sharing that stem from unexpected conversations, or, when linguistic barriers prevent words, from trading smiles and gestures.

Consequently, I love taking pictures of those with whom I have had an exchange.  These captures are always a great reminder of the funny, solemn, or sometimes uncomfortable moments we have shared.

One thing I noticed as I was taking pictures, however:  the diversity of the faces in Myanmar. It surprised me. While I didn’t exactly have an idea of what Burmese people would look like, I certainly didn’t expect all of the different physical characteristics of the people I encountered. In retrospect, I probably shouldn’t have been surprised — Myanmar is bordered by China, Laos, Thailand, India, and Bangladesh.
